Internetz,
As you probably already heard, theres this great article over at Good Gear Guide on the 12 most interesting linux distros out there.  I especially love Tin Foil Hat Linux and the live.linuX-gamers.net distros.  I have an old Dell Inspiron laptop sitting at home just wating to be utilized for something.  Heck, even the Mythbuntu distro might turn my old laptop into a useful media center.  I'm looking forward to heading home at the end of the day so I can tool around with several of these distros and see which one might run best on my laptop.

So I deleted my Facebook account. The death clock struck at 9:38am on Tuesday, May 4th, 2010. The reason I decided to delete my FB account was because, well, I just don't trust Facebook as a secure platform on which to share information.   I point to three recent articles that talk about Facebook's security issues.

Also, Facebook has come to view it's users as commodity; cash cows.   When trying to do something as simple as update my contact information, which was once before a simple, quick painless task had now turned into a constant demand that I link at least one commercial page back to my profile. I made it a point to deselect everything, which by default is selected, just what Facebook would like I'm sure.  And, after hitting save I was thrown back to my profile only to have to run through that process again if I ever wanted to update my information.  FACEBOOK WAS HOLDING MY INFORMATION HOSTAGE!!! Well FUCK YOU FACEBOOK!

I once loved Facebook for it's simplicity and it's ability to share information with friends such as pictures, events and announcements.   But then it turned into a commercial smorgasbord of scams, viagra adds, boob enlargement adds, etc.  Then games like that mafia game and that farm game came along with the goal at spamming all your friends in order to sign them up and milk them for money by selling them virtual goods.   Recently, my partners address book was spammed and every one his friends got a link to some phishing site, I really don't know because I didn't click on the link which pointed to angelfire. He was trying to figure out how it happend.  Most likely through Facebook as the PC world article above addresses.

In all, Facebook decline started when they decided that their business model was to create a unique web presence where users could come and in one place, collectively share information, play games and overall, "socailize". That's all good, but the platform fell apart when money started to talk and Facebook opened up their doors to everyone.  What was once a social networking site for college students that required an active enrollment in a university, was now open to the world and subsequently every scammer and spammer scum bag out their. So, congratulations, Facebook! You're the new Myspace! The Meg of the internetz.  Hey, everybody, let's all point and laugh at Meg.  HA-HA-HA!
